Monica ClendeninThankfully, I woke up one morning and a light bulb went off in my head. I’m not living the rest of my life feeling or looking this way and I’m not having weight loss surgery. I have the power to make the choice to change my life both mentally and physically. From that point on I have never turned back. I didn’t set out to lose 100 pounds. I set out to loose one pound at a time and make my body healthier from within. I stopped eating processed carbohydrates, sugars, and high fatty foods. I also began eating breakfast of lean, high protein and healthy grain. I now eat 5-6 times per day. You must eat to lose weight. Most people don’t realize this fact. If you are only eating once or twice a day the body thinks it’s starving and will hold on to calories and store instead of using as fuel. I eat much better quality of food that the body can actually use as fuel and not store as fat. Therefore, I eat a lot more food now than I ever did weighing 255 pounds.
I was not going to a gym because I was too embarrassed. I could barely walk at 3.0 mph when I started and thought my heart was going to explode. I kept telling myself one day at a time, tomorrow will be easier. I hated exercise and could talk myself into doing anything else but exercise. Many days I had internal conversations with myself and literally turned my care around and went back to the gym. My advice to anyone who is obese is to believe in yourself when nobody else does and to never give up on yourself. You and only you have the power to change your life, your living habits, and the body you have. You made the choices that got you heavy and have to make the choices to make you healthy. No pill or surgery will do this for you long term. I takes lifetime of good eating decisions and exercising everyday. From my experience I can tell you, the days you try to talk yourself out of exercising are the days you need to do the most! If my day was going to be too busy, I would get up at 4:20 am and get on the treadmill at home or walk outside. I didn’t like it, but I was determined not to let my busy day get in the way of the success I wanted for myself. After reaching a plateau for about six months I discovered Empowered Personal Training Studio and Nathan Philbeck. They are as dedicated to me and my workouts as I am to myself. They were willing to meet with me at all hours of the day. My body shape and core strength has drastically changed and become more defined since working with a personal trainer.
Now I am down 100 pounds. I run or do some form of cardio six days a week and weight train 3 days per week. Please don’t try to lose weight and get healthy without incorporating both of these aspects into your routine. The muscle you build will replace the fat you lose and help to tighten the skin as the pounds come off. Muscle also burns calories 24/7. Cardio only burns calories and fat while you are in the act. Good luck with your personal Journey to a healthier happier you!
