My life has been consumed with competitive athletics from the age of seven until I retired at the age of thirty four from the National Football League. My training regiment for most of those years was structured and intense: four years of college and twelve years professionally. Upon retirement I decided my body needed some time off from high level training; what I fail to realize was that I couldn’t completely cut fitness from my life without gaining weight. My caloric intake during those competitive years was very high because that was what my body required to train at the level I did but with no physical activity after football and no change in eating habits I quickly ballooned up to almost four hundred pounds. I noticed the changes in my body over several years of darting by mirrors, inconsistent cardio activity and roller coaster dieting. My job requirements as a professional scout, and lack of solid motivation more often kept me out of the gym than in it. It wasn’t until I lost my job in February that I decided to take charge of my health through encouragement from my wife, and joined Empowered Fitness camp where she’d been attending for several months. Since enrolling in the class I have lost just a little over thirty pounds and with the help and support of an encouraging Empowered Fitness staff I plan to lose at least fifty more.
