I started practicing yoga, to try to help bring balance to my life, to try to get myself to slow down and also to fulfill the flexibility aspect of my fitness routine. While training for my first marathon, I had an IT band injury and found comfort in my yoga practice, I was also challenged and noticed my balance starting to improve. I had much better runs on the weeks I had practiced yoga, I looked forward to certain poses that I knew helped and felt so good on my tight muscles! After a couple months, when I was no longer in training I noticed how the yoga practice was flowing over into my running and my mountain biking! I was in touch with my muscles; I was more aware and also able to keep my internal focus even when the outside distractions were present. I was able to perform better; this I contribute directly to my yoga practice. Power Vinyasa Yoga is not just relaxation or meditation but it made me sweat, it challenged me and it did help me stretch and strengthen too. I am completely convinced that it is an integral part of any athletes well rounded routine and want to offer Empowered Yoga for Runners to others. Together with my yoga instructor at our studio, Audrey, I have created a class for runners, who would like practice yoga!
